Supply Chain - An Overview.

In a country like India, about 60% of the food quality is lost in the supply chain from the farm to the final consumer. Consumer actually end up paying approximately about 35% more than what they could be paying if the supply chain was improved, because of wastage and multiple margins in the current supply structure. The farmer in India gets 30% of what the consumer pays in the retail store.
Compare this with the situation obtaining in USA,where farmer can receive up to 70% of the final retail price and the wastage percentages are so low as 4-6% only. One can easily imagine the benefits of retail and the processes associated with it,.This example holds true for all other formats also. India is a growing nation with the organized retail pie close to only 4%,which means their is ample space available for any player to grow.
